Tape inflammation of the periosteum with sports tape
This quick and easy tape technique can be used to relieve pain in inflammation of the periosteum, and it's easy enough to do on your own. To do this, you need zinc oxide tape (For example, Medpoint RayGold or CellCarbon)
A little background
Inflammation of the periosteum is very common in sports trauma and mainly recognizes numb pain in the front of the leg, which can be accompanied by swelling. The pain may get worse if you continue exercising - so it's a good idea to stop exercising if you feel pain in the front of your leg.
Typical periocular inflammation is caused by medial tibial stress syndrome, which involves damage and inflammation of the connective tissue connected to the tibia. MSSS is often associated with running overload and repeated concussion and is most likely to increase with training duration or intensity.
The first step in treating periosteitis should be to rest and keep cold from the trauma (We recommend borrowing Game Ready cold compression unit), and you can use this taping technique to relieve pain during your vacation. However, if pain persists or worsens, medical attention should be sought as it may develop into a serious problem.
Required Equipment
- 3,8cm wide zinc oxide tape (Medpoint RayGold, CellCarbon or Air-Go)
- Scissors (easier to split the tape for beginners)
Instruction
- Start taping the front of the ankle on the bone. Wrap zinc oxide tape diagonally across the outside of the foot (ie the side or small toe).
- Continue around the outside of the leg so that the tape comes out of the lower leg.
- Bring the zinc oxide tape around the tibia muscle - simply put, tape the foot upwards.
Tape around the inside of the lower leg and continue spirally upwards.
- As you move over the inner side of the tibia onto the anterior tibia, tighten the tape a little more to feel / see the tape pull the soft superficial tissue from the tibia to the front of the leg.
Cut the zinc oxide tape on the outside of the foot. Step by step, the spiral tape on the bottom of the foot should look like this:
Add another strip of zinc oxide tape in the same way, following the same steps. The overlap over the first strip could be 1/3 to 2/3 of the width of the tape.
Advice:
Medpoint tapes have a very strong glue, so it is recommended to shave the foot first (it also helps the tape to stick better). After that, you could wait 24 hours to wait for the skin to irritate after shaving.
